Ultimate Local Winners: October 5th-11th

By Jack "Jackie Peanuts" Moore | 10/12/21

Yesterday, we took a look at three of the biggest Ultimate tournaments of the weekend. That was just part of a huge week of Smash, though, as 49 tournaments of at least 50 players (after DQs) took place across the world. Let's take a look at who was on top of the Smash Ultimate world last week:

Map 1: Europe + Japan

Last week was one of the most active weeks in European Smash since quarantine, as 10 tournaments of at least 50 players took place in Europe, including two of at least 100 entrants.
The largest took place in Liège, Belgium, where France was able to win the day behind
Ness
, who took out Germany's
Greninja
and France's
Snake
to win the 123-entrant bracket at Vulcan. Perhaps the most shocking result of the week came at Dojo #7 in Créteil, France, where
Palutena
was able to take the 101-entrant bracket over
Wario
Marth
, who switched from the Marth to the Wario after getting reset in Grand Finals, but was unable to stop Raflow even with his main.
Three other European events topped 80 entrants. In Montpellier , France, Glutonny won the 96-entrant LSC Smash over
Lucina
and
Mii Gunner
Mii Brawler
. In Wien, Austria,
Dark Samus
traveled all the way from Spain to take the 87-entrant Coca-Cola Breakpoint October over Germany's
Captain Falcon
and Austria's
R.O.B.
.
Additionally, Japan held its first qualifying tournament of the month, Seibu Attack #8, a 192-entrant bracket that was the second-biggest in the entire world this week, trailing only Canadian major Pinnacle.
Lucina
Min Min
was able to win yet another big event, although this time Zackray
R.O.B.
Joker
Wolf
was absent, DQing out of the event. Still, ProtoBanham emerged atop an incredible collection of talent, with PGRU players like
Megaman
Sheik
Wario
,
Lucina
Pikachu
, Umeki
Daisy
,
Sonic
and
Banjo & Kazooie
Duck Hunt
falling even before top 12. In second was
Sheik
, followed by
Ness
in third and
Pyra/Mythra
in fourth.

Map 2: North + Central America

For more on Vancouver, Canada's Pinnacle, won by
Wolf
, and Las Vegas, Nevada's Edgeguard, won by
Palutena
as well as 's
Snake
win at the 16-entrant (and thus non-qualifying) NA West Regional Finals, check the linked article above.
Three other American events managed to cross the 100-entrant mark this week. At Home Sweet Home 2 in Birmingham, Alabama,
Samus
defeated
Zero Suit Samus
Pokémon Trainer
and
Joker
to take the 141-entrant bracket. At Sixty Six Games in Normal, Illinois,
Ness
took down
Pyra/Mythra
Sephiroth
Dark Pit
and
Olimar
to win a 110-entrant bracket. And in Portland, Oregon,
Captain Falcon
won the 106-entrant Big Porch 4 over
Pac-Man
and "Scend" ()
Pyra/Mythra
.
Six more events cracked the 75-entrant barrier. In Skokie, Illinois,
Mr. Game and Watch
resumed his domination of Chicago with a win at the 93-entrant Ignition #238, taking out
Mario
and
Robin
. At SMASHADELPHIA 2021 in Oaks, Pennsylvania,
Bowser Jr.
defeated
Diddy Kong
and
Joker
to win the 92-entrant bracket. In Laurel, Maryland at The Grind,
Ness
(for real this time) was able to take down a pair of MDVA locals in
Zero Suit Samus
and
Wario
to win the 86-entrant bracket. At Smash The Line: Third Impact in Enfield, Connecticut,
Fox
won a 77-entrant bracket over
Joker
Zero Suit Samus
and
Pikachu
Pyra/Mythra
. And finally at San Antonio, Texas's Big Texas Super Hero Smash 2021,
Peach
defeated
Chrom
Roy
and
Zero Suit Samus
Sheik
to win the 75-entrant bracket.
